As is typically the case in the past several years, social media is quickly making an impact in the world of sports and more specifically NASCAR. I read an article this evening about a social media event created by Speed TV that will take place during the final practice round of the Daytona 500. Fans will have the opportunity to tweet and ask questions answered and facilitated by a NASCAR analyst.
I think this is interesting because it could evolve into a powerful tool for sports journalists in the future. Sports news organizations have already begun using Twitter to tweet about various professional sporting events but I think it could become more common in terms of local sports reporting as well. It could also be used to create popularity for local sports such as minor league baseball and hockey and even high school sports.
