who I am

My name is Nick Bentz and I am a junior at UW- Whitewater majoring in print journalism with a minor in public relations.
I am a full time student, work part-time and I am interning with the Sports Information Department through the athletic department. Right now I work every Friday helping out with sports related statistics and tasks but I will soon be writing press releases for athletic events. Unfortunately it is not a paid internship but I hope the experience and portfolio material will benefit my career as a journalist.
I am currently seeking an internship with a magazine publication where I hope to sharpen my skills and gain experience working as an editorial/feature writer.
Someday I plan on writing for a magazine publication like Rolling Stone or Spin magazine. People often ask why I want to write for a publication like Rolling Stone. I relish the creative freedom that comes with feature writing; an aspect that is relatively unheard of in newspaper writing. I think it would be amazing to have the opportunity to interview and write about artists and actors. When I was in high school I read a personal interview conducted by Spin magazine with Marylin Manson. I was shocked to discover that Manson was an incredibly intelligent person. People like Manson are often enlightening and deeply misunderstood. I find people like that intriguing and that often sparks my creative abilities.

  2. Awesome post.
I think that fact that you shared the story of Marilyn Manson shows just how effective journalism is in changing peoples' perspectives.

  3. Nick, I think its great that you were so detailed with your career. Right down to the Magazine! It shows you know what you want and you are working towards your goal in every way. I also thought that the internship you have right now with the UW Athletic Department is a great way to start off your career. Its shows you will have good experience.
